Mold Testing
Preliminary Mold Investigation

In the preliminary investigation, we will do a visual inspection and moisture inspection using moisture meters and infrared thermal imaging. We also check for current temperature and relative humidity for inside and outside of your home or business.

Air Samples: A specialized mold air sampling cassette is connected to a high volume airflow pump. Fifteen liters of air per minute for 5 minutes for a sample volume of 75 liters is then drawn through the cassette to be saved. The cassettes are then submitted to an accredited third party lab for direct microscope analysis. This test allows us to determine all types and levels of mold spores in the air.

Tape Lift: A surface with visible mold growth can be sampled with clear sticky tape that is then placed on a clean glass slide. This slide will be sent to the laboratory for analysis. The results will allow us to estimate the amount of mold spores on a surface area with mold growth.

ATP Swab Samples: A surface that is needing to be sampled for living organisms and the effective cleaning of the substrate, is wiped with a pre-moistened cotton swab and then placed into a testing device. This device measures adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which is the energy molecule found in all cells, and provides information on the level of contamination in just seconds. The higher the reading, the more contamination is present. After a thorough cleaning, all sources of ATP should be significantly reduced.

How do you know if mold is gone?

Eliminating the source of moisture that caused the mold problem in the first place is the most important step. No matter how rigorous a mold cleanup is, the water problem must be taken care of or mold will return and continue to grow. An inspection of the area that has been cleaned and remediated will show no visible signs of past or present mold growth. There should be no signs of water damage, mold growth, or the smell of mold. If moldy odors are present, then mold remediation has not been effective and you may have to remediate again.

Health concerns

Breathing in raised levels of airborne fungi can trigger an allergic or toxic response in a healthy individual. For some people, mold can cause a stuffy nose, sore throat, coughing or wheezing, and in extreme cases rashes and burning eyes. People that may have a weak immune system, asthma or who are allergic to mold, may have severe reactions if they live in an indoor environment with high levels of mold exposureInfants, young children, and the elderly have the highest risk for experiencing health effects related to mold exposure.
